Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has assured that all religious festivals in New Bangladesh will be celebrated in a fearless and joyful environment. She made the remarks on Tuesday while visiting the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Old Dhaka during the ongoing Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
Calling for unity, Sharmeen urged people of all religions, castes, and ethnic groups to uphold their human responsibilities by maintaining harmony and cooperation throughout the festival. She also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of women and children during the celebrations.
The adviser noted that citizens can assist the authorities by promptly providing information on any untoward situation, enabling swift action. She also informed that “help desks” have been set up at every puja mandap by the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to provide immediate support.
Speaking with devotees, Sharmeen expressed satisfaction that the festival was being held peacefully and that worshippers were able to celebrate with devotion and enthusiasm.
Primary and Mass Education Adviser Prof Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder, also present on the occasion, said Durga Puja represents not only a religious festival but also a symbol of harmony and camaraderie across society. He reaffirmed the commitment of all citizens, regardless of religion or community, to move forward together on the path of progress.
According to officials, a total of 1,64,524 personnel are engaged nationwide to ensure the smooth conduct of Durga Puja, including 1,63,877 from the Ministry of Social Welfare and 9,353 from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
In case of emergencies, citizens have been advised to use the toll-free hotline 1098 of the Ministry of Social Welfare and hotline 109 of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, both operational round the clock.
