Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that the government is closely monitoring the situation and safety of the participants in the historic flotilla heading toward Gaza, particularly world-renowned photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Professor Yunus said that the courage, determination, and unwavering spirit Shahidul Alam demonstrated during his 107 days of imprisonment in 2018 under the Hasina administration for speaking out against injustice is reflected once again in his participation in this mission. “He stands today as a shining symbol of Bangladesh’s indomitable spirit,” Yunus stated.
Referring to his address at the United Nations General Assembly last month, Professor Yunus reiterated, “Our indifference to the suffering and persecution of others is destroying the progress that took decades of effort to achieve.”
Highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he added, “We are witnessing the most heartbreaking scenes there. Children are dying of starvation, civilians are being killed indiscriminately, and entire communities, including hospitals and schools, are being wiped out.”
Concluding his statement, Professor Yunus said, “We stand with Shahidul Alam, we stand with Gaza—now and always.”
